This project, located in Northern New South Wales, involved a transformative home renovation that fully leveraged the beautiful views of the Lake opposite the site. The passion and vision of our client played a pivotal role in achieving this blend of modern refurbishment and seamless integration with the environment.

Client Brief and Design Approach in Collaborative Creation
Drawing upon our client's unique background - a tradesperson with extensive experience in the commercial building industry and a history of prior renovations along with his wife - our goal in the Lake View House project was to synergise this expertise with our design approach. With a directive to deliver a contemporary coastal aesthetic, our design strategy aimed to fully exploit the opportunity for views and intricately weave a compelling connection between indoor and outdoor living.
The clients’ openness to experimental material use enabled us to incorporate elements more commonly seen in commercial contexts, adding an unexpected yet harmonious texture to the residential setting. Our choice of stunning natural timber, light-coloured coastal cladding, and metallic panelling reflects this approach, delivering a contemporary yet relaxed ambiance.
The entrance design, featuring a stately travertine stairway leading up to a large pivot door, embodies a sense of anticipation and awe. This architectural gesture, combined with the integration of serene views opposite the Lake, contributes to a design narrative that balances modernity with the untouched beauty of Northern New South Wales.

Seamless Integration of Outdoor Scenery
This modern kitchen design embodies the ideal blend of style and function. The clean lines and minimalist color palette, highlighted by the mix of black and white matte finishes, complement the concrete island bench. All chosen materials subtly echo the property's natural surrounds.
The strategic positioning of the kitchen, complete with its panoramic window splashback, invites the vibrant outdoor greenery into the heart of the home. It's an approach that reflects our design intent to harmonise internal spaces with the captivating landscape, crafting an immersive indoor-outdoor experience.

Sensitive Refurbishment: Preserving the Charm of Yesteryears
Our approach to the renovation of this coastal gem by architect Robert A. Sunners, dated back to 1980, was marked by a deep respect for the original design. A key part of this was the preservation of the intricate ceiling detail in the main bedroom.
In response to our clients' brief, we replaced the sliding door with louvre windows. This strategic change not only maximises the stunning lake views but also allows for tailored ventilation, enabling our clients to direct the breeze into the space as required. Each design decision was made with a nod to the past, while optimising for contemporary comfort and functionality.

Intricately orchestrated transformation characterising the contemporary coastal residence.
Architecturally, the facade integrates harmoniously with the landscape, mirroring the natural textures of the surrounding environment. The juxtaposition of raw timber, pristine white cladding, and the striking edge of dark metallic panels manifests our intention to create a synthesis of contemporary design and coastal sensibilities.
The viewing perspective, across the vivid blue of the infinity pool, amplifies the resonance between the structure and its environment, embodying our fundamental design approach - to curate spaces that inherently connect with their natural contexts.
The outdoor entertaining area, serving as a crucial link between indoor and outdoor spaces, takes centre stage in this design narrative. Positioned strategically to oversee the breathtaking pool, it blurs the boundary between architecture and nature, thus fostering a seamless interaction between dwelling and landscape.
